What are Varicose & Thread (Spider) Veins?

Varicose veins are bulging, swollen veins that most frequently develop in the legs and feet. They are typically dark purple or blue in colour. Such protruding veins might occasionally look lumpy or twisted. Thread or spider veins are much tiny and can be found just beneath the skin’s surface, with a diameter that ranges from one to three millimetres on any area of the body. They most frequently occur on the legs and face.

How are Varicose Veins Treated?

Varicose veins can be treated quickly, effectively, and with little recovery time with sclerotherapy. Sclerotherapy involves injecting a unique liquid. This is injected into the afflicted vein, resulting in scarring and venous blockage.

Treating Thread Veins

Laser treatment is particularly effective for thread veins. Our laser can emit light energy to the vein which is absorbed and causes the vessel to coagulate.

After a course of treatments the vessels will disappear. Whilst results are long lasting for several years, if thread veins re-appear a maintenance course may be required.

What Happens During the Treatment?

You will be required to wear compression stocking and given the appropriate aftercare. For thread vein treatments after a full consultation, laser energy will target the thread veins. The treatment can take as little as 15 mins. Some people may experience slight discomfort.

What are the Results?

For varicose veins as the skin heals, the treated vein will eventually disappear. Depending the the size of the vein this can take between 1-4 months. A single treatment is usually sufficient, but you medical practitioner will advise you if you need a course.

For thread veins, quite often a noticeable difference is seen following the first thread, although a course of three treatments may be required.
